5:38p Tony Ortiz on who the Lions should take at #20: “If everything fell right, I would like to see USC’s Rey Maulaluga be the pick at #20 - I think he’s the second-best linebacker in the draft [behind Aaron Curry] and he would be the a good pick”.

One of the funniest things from this week’s Karsch and Anderson Mock Draft was their hard-hitting analysis of the Saints Pick: “Karsch: Malcom Jenkins, CB, Ohio State. I really have no f*cking idea what New Orleans will do. NONE.
Anderson: Chris “Beanie” Wells RB Ohio State. Beanie and Bush…sounds like a porno.”

I find it curious that the Broncos of all teams selected Moreno. What happened to the Bronco’s philosophy of “just put anyone back there and he’ll get a thousand yards”.

We’re all holding our breath right now for Rey Maulaluga.

5:18p    Stafford on 97.1 The Ticket (cribsnotes version): gives huge props to Tom Condon for scoring his deal… wants to work on his consistency… took a lot of pre-draft advice from Troy Aikman and Drew Brees.

The Niners take Crabtree. Who will throw to him? The 49ers can’t be happy with how this is playing out for them. Their two biggest needs were gone before they could blink.

5:17 p Crabtree is falling. Jags were obviously happy with Holt at receiver as a stop-gap for the next couple of years and WR isn’t a real need for GB either. Crabtree’s problem is a combination of injury, attitude and Matt Millen.

Dennis Fithian’s Top 5 Lions Needs: 1. Middle linebacker 2. DT 3. Safety 4 Guard 5 Tight End

The Pack picking up Raji could haunt the Lions for seasons to come. Stafford and Raiola may be wetting themselves.

4:57p    Gator on the Lions at Pick #20: “#20 should be defensive.  Rey Maualuga is the number one priority, if he’s gone then it shifts to Peria Jerry.  If both are taken, look for the best DL available, though I’m guessing if both are gone it’s time to shore up the OL with Michael Oher.  I would avoid the CB’s at this point and wait for #32 to address the secondary or DE/Pass Rusher.  Worst case scenario is that you add Stafford and someone to protect him in the first round”.

Raiders shock everyone by taking Heward-Bey over Crabtree.

I wonder what Matt Millen is doing today. Did he put together a draft board in his basement? Maybe he’s building a table? Who knows?

4:40p   Jets trading up for Sanchez? Browns are bumming about missed Curry pick.

4:35p   Curry to the Seahawks. Those Seahawk hats are awful. Gator is predicting Curry will be traded. Mortensen is saying the Browns are bummed that Curry wasn’t there for them. Sanchez is starting to get those Brady Quinn eyes.

4:25: Shocker! Curry is falling. Tyson Jackson to the Chiefs. Will the Seahawks draft Sanchez?

Karsch on Stafford deal: “I’m not crazy about Stafford or the contract — $40 Mil? This is the first move they made that I can say, I don’t like it. Had they signed him for less then market value … played him against Curry’s offer to take a Jake Long deal — that would have been financially shrewd and would bode well for future moves”.

4:04p Thunderous boos from New York for the Stafford pick. Quotes galore from ESPN about “arm strength”. Godspeed Lions!

Dennis Fithian on how he likes the Lewand/Mayhew regime thusfar: “So, far the team has done OK but the real test is the draft. I’m not going to go over board saying I like this and I like that. I think mostly what Mayhew and Leywand have going for them is that they are not Matt Millen. On the flip side both of them worked under Millen”.

3:44p    Gator on Lions win totals if they draft well: “It’s tough to quantify a win total based on how they draft, but, I think if they concentrate on the Defense with the first 3 picks it would allow for them to be competetive in about half of their games.  That doesn’t mean they’ll win 8, it means they’ll be competetive for 8.  Fork to my nose in an alley, I’d say if they went in that direction they’ll win 5.”

Rest in Peace Bea Arthur (breaking)
